Periodic Service Announcement for the Lighthouse

For those who added me within the last 4 months...

  • I have an opt-in group [ Those Who Care ].  Interested?  Leave a comment! :D

  • The Lighthouse is optimized for [ Mozilla Firefox ] 1.0 or higher.  Internet Explorer users will see a couple of glitches here and there, including quotation marks ("like this") that should be there by context but are missing.

And a new one...

  • I post quite a lot of friends-only entry, so you may find it useful to remain logged into LiveJournal.com across browser restarts — you can do it manually either after you log in (LJ will prompt you to do so), or even at the same time as you log in by suffixing your username with an exclamation point (!) when you enter the username to log in (for example, use astralblue! instead of astralblue).

Why are the quotes like that, BTW? Is it an encoding compliance issue? Even in Firefox, if I'm selecting/copying/pasting them, they don't carry over.

[ HTML 4.01 standard, section 9.2.2 ] suggests that the <Q> tags are introduced to maintain language neutrality because different languages use different quotation marks.

As for the copy-and-paste glitch, I think it's either the limitation of Gecko engine (e.g. it cannot include texts inserted before/after a tag using CSS contents: properties), or simply a bug.
