Ladies and Gentlemen, Shall We Pray for Venezuela?

[ Rice urges promoting democracy in Americas ]

Among the agenda items is a debate of a U.S. proposal to create a mechanism within the body's Democratic Charter to intervene in countries where democracy is in jeopardy.

In the 2001 charter, member nations pledged to protect one another's democracies.

While in Florida, Rice is to meet with a variety of civil society representatives, including Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who met last week with Bush.

What does the U.S. want?  Let me quote my friend/coworker:

they just want to conquer Venezuela and get its oil, but have no money right now to start another war...

That's right.  The U.S. wants More Oil™.  It has been the largest importer of Venezuelan crude oil, but these days the Venezuelan government is trying to diversify the export targets, including China—last December, China and Venezuela [ signed an agreement ] that they would jointly develop oil wells in Venezuela.  The U.S. wasn't very happy about this...

Anyone who says the U.S. is not being greedy about other nations' oil now officially needs to be shot in the head.  Yes, to bring him back into sense.

FYI, Venezuela is the world's fifth largest oil exporter.

Kinda.  I become really talkative when the subject is something that bothers me. :p
