Ever since I've watched random Miyazaki animations from 80s, anything that resembles a windmill held this strange romantic value to me. Even small toy pinwheels suddenly had new meanings.
Fast forward by 15 years. Out of boredom, I was driving to that Sacramento River bank again, hoping I could take good pictures of wind generators visible at a distance from there, with the air being nice and clear after it having rained earlier this week. Since I was bored, I thought, why not take an alternate route to there, even if it takes a bit longer? My road atlas said there was this long, winding Vasco Road, starting in Livermore and ending near SR 4 in Oakley, so I decided to take that. After all, if a road looks winding on a map, there's a good chance that it could be scenic.
So I get off I-580 at Vasco Road, have a small lunch in Livermore and start driving north. In about 10 minutes, I see a row of small wind generators (about 40-50 feet tall?) neatly lined up along a hillcrest. ‘Beautiful, so they have them here too,’ I talk to myself.
Then as I drive, they get closer.
And closer. Wow, nice.
And closer! OMGWTF?!!
The road was almost literally grazing by the generators, with the closest one being less than 300-400 feet away! At that distance, they looked so awesome. ♥
Then I pass them. Then in less than 10 seconds, I see another row on the right side, equally as close.
Then another row on the left side.
No wait, two more rows on the left side, like omigod!
I'm already gasping left and right (yes pun intended XD), then the real thing came: 4-5 rows of giant white turbines, at least 100ft, maybe taller, spinning to the spring breeze, slowly, almost poetically. Forget about gasping, it's more like wetting my pants at this point! XD
It's almost as good as it can get, I thought, but waitaminute, there's more, like a bonus! Another 2-3 rows of turbines, this time not as tall as the previous ones but deadly cute! Ever seen ones with straight (not streamlined or tapered) wings that look like a stick, making the whole thing look like a toy? Yup, those ones. ♥♥♥♥♥
I was so ready to make a U-turn and start shooting them pictures away, then a sign says “NO U-TURNS EXCEPT AUTHORIZED VEHICLES,” then another says “NO PARKING AT ANY TIME.” Like I would care, right. Then I look into the rearview mirror. And there's this CHP car following me.
OMIGOD WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A PARTY POOPER -_-; OMIGOD WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A PARTY POOPER -_-; OMIGOD WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A PARTY POOPER -_-; OMIGOD WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A PARTY POOPER -_-; OMIGOD WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A PARTY POOPER -_-; OMIGOD WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A PARTY POOPER -_-;
(In small letters because I didn't want to actually piss him off…. LOL)
So yeah, no pictures yet, but I think I saw something like a visitor center on the other side of the road with cars parked nearby, so I'm gonna do some research about it. There's no chance these babes would get away without being photographed. XDD
