ATTN: Fellow Korean music fans

According to the new amendment to the Korean Copyright Law which went effective January 16th, not just copyright holders (i.e. lyricists and composers) but also performers (including singers), recording companies, and copyright agencies that represent said performers and recording companies can sue you for uploading or hotlinking copyrighted contents (read: MP3s and music videos) publicly.

This applies even if you're a U.S. citizen because of the WTO Agreements on TRIPS (Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) and the international criminal investigation assistance between Korea and the U.S.

The best action to take is:

  1. To pull all the links out of public views, and in addition,
  2. To protect the links themselves with a password or other access control mechanism (so only you can access it).
